Once your simulator computer has arrived, it is time to connect the cabling up to your other simulator components to get everything up and running. Our computers arrive preloaded with your selected software packages and optimised for the best performance. Please refer to Fig.1 below if you are unsure of where the cables need to connect to by default.
These are USB 2.0 ports at the back of the computer which we use to connect the GC2 to the computer via USB.
Please note that we have seen connection issues caused by using a USB 3.0 (blue port) instead of the recommended 2.0.
The GCQuad can be connected up to a free USB 3.0 (blue port) on the back of the computer, same as the Touchscreen (USB 3.0 Ports labelled above as 'Touchscreen'). The GCQuad can also be connected to the black USB 2.0 ports, via Ethernet to the same network as your PC or via Ethernet directly to the back of the computer if this port is not being used for the PC's internet access (labelled as 'Internet' above).
These are USB 3.0 ports at the back of the computer which we use to connect the touchscreens. We recommend using these ports as they can handle more data and is the type of USB which is used natively by our monitors - the speed of the 2.0 ports may not be sufficient, so we recommend where possible using a 3.0 port.
Issues with the touchscreen not responding to input can sometimes be resolved by moving the cable from a 2.0 port to a 3.0 port (from black port to blue port) if not already done.
This port is designed for ethernet cables which connect directly from the computer to your network to provide internet. This connection will provide a more stable internet connection than Wi-Fi.
Our simulator setups will also facilitate Ethernet connections between the GCQuad and the simulation software by using a network switch to share the connections between your network, PC and GCQuad. This way all devices can see each other and access the internet through the switch.
On most computers, you will notice that only one of these ports is provided. If you need more ports for a set of swing cameras, a network card can be purchased from us directly. These network cards include four ports that enable you to connect multiple cameras via ethernet.
The area for Display Connections in Fig.1 is used to connect displays like your monitor or projector to the computer. We recommend using these separate ports lower down on the computer as these are connections directly to the graphics card, which will need to process the visual output from FSX and other simulation software.
Please note that the connections higher up the case are not connected to the graphics card and using them has been known to cause issues with the software not launching correctly (for instance, if one display is connected to the graphics card and one is connected to the motherboard higher up, this can confuse the PC's display output).
